Implementation Plan for resilient students by Matthew (Matt) Key from Georgia

Implementation plan to create resiliency within students, Matthew (Matt) Key from Georgia.

“To produce resiliency within the students you have a good plan would be three fold”, states Matthew (Matt) Key from Georgia.  One of the parts of this plan will take place within the first semester of the school year.  Another part will begin in the first semester and continue throughout the year and the third part will be an ongoing plan throughout the school year.  The first part in implementing this plan will be my responsibility.  In order to build the relationships that teachers need to have with their students, I need to begin having one-on-one conferences with the students.  In these conferences I want to find out their interests, what they like to learn and how they like to learn.  I having these conferences I want to ensure to these students that I have their needs at heart.  To give support for the students in their learning, I will be available for one hour after school for tutorials.  These tutorials will be for extended time in finishing materials or further explanation of content for better understanding.  Also, tutorials can be used for the specific purpose of just establishing stronger relationships with the students.  The second part of implementing this plan would be to attend professional development courses to find new and innovative ways of teaching my curriculum that meets all learners.  Once I begin attending the courses, I can decide which practices that I want to use the most that will have the greatest impact on my students.  Also, I would want to give the students a survey to determine how they like to learn the best.  Giving the students a voice in the process of their learning gives them a sense of ownership in the learning and develops pride in what they are doing.  Throughout the year I would need to find workshops or courses that I can continue to build best practices for my classroom.  Matthew (Matt) Key states,  “I must say that sharing these best practices with my colleagues is of the utmost importance”.  I do not want to keep this new found knowledge just for my students.  The goal is to build more resilient children, not just students in my class.  The final part of implementing this plan would be to assist the administration in finding speakers and parents that would be willing to come in to school to talk with other parents about how to build resilient students.  Also, the administration needs to offer opportunities for the parents to become involved.  Getting the parents involved in discussing important issues in the school, participating in school wide activities, and helping teachers with certain areas in their classrooms will build enhance the environment into one where the children feel safe and see that everyone is involved to ultimately see them achieve.
