Administrator Beliefs...Matthew (Matt) Key, Georgia

     1.  I believe that each school has a culture and it should be recognized.

Administrators need to recognize the culture of the school and what it takes to get certain changes implemented.

2. I believe that an administrator needs to understand that change needs to take place.

An administrator needs to have the mindset that whatever does not change does not grow!

3. I believe that professional development opportunities need to be provided.

Teachers and administrators need to have opportunities to be able to find new and improve their practices.

4. I believe that an administrator needs to be a facilitator in change.

When you lead by example others will take notice and begin to do the same.

5. I believe that collaboration of teachers should be allowed.

Teachers should be allowed time to get together with their colleagues to discuss issues and determine what works best.

6. I believe that leadership styles of administrators affects the way people follow.

A top down approach is not the best way to lead.

7. I believe that administrators need to be able to communicate effectively.

It is hard for people to understand initiatives and other issues if an administrator has difficulty communicating.

8. I believe that in order for change to last, teachers need to be empowered.

Teachers opinions and ideas need to be valued. They also need to be involved in the decision making processes. Lasting change occurs with teachers becoming involved.

9. I believe that administrators need to use good moral and ethical judgment.

Without following good moral and ethical judgments, personal opinions get mixed up in the decision making process and emotions cause the wrong decisions to be made at times.

10. I believe that administrators need to be good motivators.
